The theory goes that if you can’t beat them, join them. Well today that isn’t far off. I am stealing the Dr’s beloved prescription pad and repurposing it for a better use. What I am essentially asking you to do is a reflective exercise, taking a second out to consider what areas of your life you’d like to improve and then coming up with the lifestyle changes necessary to make those happen.
Essentially all that we are doing here is creating if-then implementations, building systems of lifestyle tweaks that will help fix your ailment. So if you are wanting to increase your energy levels you could write a prescription of 8hours sleep a night. This is easy to track and as Peter Drucker says ‘What gets measured gets managed’, so you are far more likely to stick to it.
Try this exercise every time you spot an area of your life you’d like to improve and make sure you reach for your lifestyle prescription pad before throwing some questionable crutches at the issue such as high caffeine energy drinks or painkillers.
Over time you will find that this simple exercise starts to have a transformative effect, you will become more creative, finding solutions to problems without much effort and you will complain less as you are now focusing on the parts of the world that are within your control, in other words developing an internal locus of control. I promise you won’t get those benefits from an antiacid or some paracetemol.
As ever the usual disclaimer applies that I am not a Dr and am not trying to play one on the internet. If you have a serious health complaint then obviously see a Dr. However do consider what lifestyle factors that are within your control you could use to find a remedy.
I would love to hear any feedback you have if you try this exercise and if you haven’t already do sign up for the newsletter on the right of this post to get exclusive content and a first look at any new Breed Project material.
